12 WEEKEND WELLNESS RETREATS FOR A MIDSUMMER MIND-BODY REBOOT

"Fact: It’s much easier to get through a never-ending set of hundreds when you know there’s wine waiting for you at the end. That’s why, at this Ketanga retreat, Barre3 instructor Jenna Muller will be leading you through a series of barre and Pilates classes all over Long Island’s wine country, from vineyards to the beach. As a reward for your sweat, you’ll also be privy to private tastings at Palmer and Martha Clara, a bike ride on Shelter Island, and a spot of stand-up paddleboarding in the sunshine (if your abs can handle it, that is)."

 INTERVIEW: JENNA MULLER

"If you haven’t been to Jenna Muller’s barre3 class, we recommend you jump on that! Her class has been one of Randi’s favorites since she started embracing her pregnancy workouts. Jenna’s high energy, positivity and sensitivity towards expecting and current mothers will transform your workout (and body!). As a dancer at heart passionately teaching while launching her site Fit Collective NYC and riding the new waves of motherhood, Jenna is finding ways to be grounded. Find out how this Beyond Mom is letting go of her perfectionist tendencies and prioritizing the present moment. "

CHEERS TO PILATES
"The Pilates-wine combination has also taken off on the East Coast. For the past few years, Stacy Schwartz, founder of Ketanga Fitness Retreats, has organized Pilates and Pinot classes. “Last year, I decided to take it to the next level by organizing a retreat,” she says. “It was a sold-out success!” During the weekend, classes are held in vineyards in the beautiful North Fork of New York’s Long Island. Pilates pro Jenna Muller teaches different classes, including high-intensity power Pilates and those that focus on restorative stretching. Wine tastings come next. “It makes for a wonderful balance of relaxing and being active,” says Schwartz. “In my opinion, that’s a perfect vacation.”

I TRIED PILATES + PINOT

I could feel my pupils dilate as I read the email invite: “I’m teaching a Pilates + Pinot class. Would you like to join as my guest?”

Um, did you just offer me wine with my exercise? I’ll be there with bells on!....Coach Jenna has been an instructor for five years and her experience shows. She was quick to correct bad form without making anyone feel self-conscious and made the large group feel intimate by using our names when she doled out words of encouragement. She also reminded us a few times during long reps that there was wine coming – making us all laugh and keep going. We ended with stretching and applause and then broke for a group photo. And, of course, to grab some wine."

FRIDAY FIRSTS: MORE PINOT, PLEASE (WITH A SIDE OF PILATES)

"Pilates & Pinot. The alliteration intrigued me, and the mention of wine sold me. The class started off as normally as I had assumed it would. The instructor Jenna Muller was very upbeat and prefaced the class by ensuring that each and every move could be modified, something I brushed off at first as I consider myself relatively flexible. Again, this was just an amplified yoga class, right? There were the initial stretches that opened up lengthened my body and stretched out even the most underneath crevices of my kneecaps (you guys know what I’m talking about). "

FITSPIRATION:  JENNA MULLER

"As part of the ongoing #Fitspiration series, I’ve been trying to find people who inspire me with their classes and their way of live. One such person is a dear friend and long-time business associate, Jenna Muller. I first met Jenna as a powerhouse public relations professional here in New York City, and then watched with admiration as she followed her passion to become a full-time fitness instructor. The gorgeous new mom is now teaching at barre3 here in New York and New Jersey, and her tireless energy and big heart have translated to a new career filled with women who come into her classrooms and soak up a little of her sunshine (and rock-hard abs.) Meet my beautiful friend, Jenna…"
