CHEERS TO PILATES
"The Pilates-wine combination has also taken off on the East Coast. For the past few years, Stacy Schwartz, founder of Ketanga Fitness Retreats, has organized Pilates and Pinot classes. “Last year, I decided to take it to the next level by organizing a retreat,” she says. “It was a sold-out success!” During the weekend, classes are held in vineyards in the beautiful North Fork of New York’s Long Island. Pilates pro Jenna Muller teaches different classes, including high-intensity power Pilates and those that focus on restorative stretching. Wine tastings come next. “It makes for a wonderful balance of relaxing and being active,” says Schwartz. “In my opinion, that’s a perfect vacation.”

I could feel my pupils dilate as I read the email invite: “I’m teaching a Pilates + Pinot class. Would you like to join as my guest?”
Um, did you just offer me wine with my exercise? I’ll be there with bells on!....Coach Jenna has been an instructor for five years and her experience shows. She was quick to correct bad form without making anyone feel self-conscious and made the large group feel intimate by using our names when she doled out words of encouragement. She also reminded us a few times during long reps that there was wine coming – making us all laugh and keep going. We ended with stretching and applause and then broke for a group photo. And, of course, to grab some wine."

"Pilates & Pinot. The alliteration intrigued me, and the mention of wine sold me. The class started off as normally as I had assumed it would. The instructor Jenna Muller was very upbeat and prefaced the class by ensuring that each and every move could be modified, something I brushed off at first as I consider myself relatively flexible. Again, this was just an amplified yoga class, right? There were the initial stretches that opened up lengthened my body and stretched out even the most underneath crevices of my kneecaps (you guys know what I’m talking about). "

KETANGA FITNESS: WHERE TRAVEL AND WINE MEET FITNESS
"While Ketanga is still in its infancy, it is rolling out a slew of fitness-related travel events and/or retreats. Next on the docket for summer is a Pilates & Pinot themed event in the North Fork of Long Island on July 28-30. The weekend-long trip will include a series of exercise classes ranging from Pilates to yoga to hiking, with many of the classes taking place in the breathtaking vineyards of the North Fork's wine country.
A few of the area's best vineyards like Palmer and Martha Clara will be on the agenda and will serve as the beautiful backdrop for several different Pilates classes. Fitness coach Jenna Muller will be leading the retreat and the headquarters will be the the Duncan Inn. "
